My 15-year-old son started private lessons with Jeff when he was in 5th grade for trumpet. He’s now in the high school Jazz band. Right now, his weekly lessons are by Zoom, and it’s going great. I hear my son play, then Jeff play. Jeff is a talented teacher and an all-around great guy. He’s fantastic with students.

Music has been a part of my life since I chose trumpet in 4th grade. Playing trumpet throughout my school years gave me a great foundation in reading music and appreciation for all types of music. By the 6th grade, I caught the guitar bug and it never left me. I was fortunate enough to take lessons from some great local musicians- Steve Sage, Dave Creamer & BillTapia.
Patience and dedication to getting the basics down are primary in the way I teach. Sure, I can show/teach you your favorite song, but that will only go so far. Learning the basic chords, rhythms, timing, and some reading will build a lifetime of enjoyment thru music. Getting the most out of you and your instrument of choice, as well as theory & harmony, scales/modes, ear training, sight-reading, etc. are all incorporated into the lessons depending on each student. Young and old, I have been teaching at Countrywood Music since 1980.
Early on I performed at the Willows Theater for plays and musicals- “Man of LaMancha” and “The Apartment”. I wrote and performed my first song for graduation at the Concord Pavilion. I’ve played in many local bands through the years. Most recently I played Guitar and Mandolin with Dream Posse, playing a wide range of rock, blues, and eclectic songs, and in Diamond Ridge, a Country Band playing Pedal Steel Guitar & Mandolin. Currently, I’m performing solo. Playing a wide range of songs at wineries / private parties and local clubs.
Since starting at Countrywood in 1980, I’ve been specializing in the beginner student. Patience is the key. No matter the age, young or older I have the ability to bring out the best in each student. Getting down the basics is key in the way I teach. We can learn your favorite song while making sure you are getting the education you need to play well. So whether it’s Electric / Acoustic Guitar, Bass, Trumpet, Mandolin or Ukulele, I can help you get started and beyond.
